Two Penticton Mosquito Teams Square off for the Title in Salmon Arm

SOMBA sent two teams (the Reds and the Rockies) to Salmon Arm this past weekend to compete in their annual mosquito tournament. What a great weekend of baseball.

Both teams went 4-0 in their respective pools and met in the final.

The final game was a hard fought battle between two teams that had very strong pitching and very good hitting. In the end the Reds were victorious in what many on the team consider their best played, and most fun game of the season.

The Rockies were lead by strong pitching by Kaden Collins and the bat of Tanner Schwartzenberger while the Reds were lead at the plate by powerful hitting by Wyatt Cutler, Braxton Becker, and Kaden Clarke! The Reds pitching was what really did the Rockies in. The starter Will Mohns, a 10 year old, shut down the Rockies for 3 innings with his blazing fastball and dynamite control. The game was closed out by Carson Burnett’s mix of scary fast fastballs, knuckle balls, and the odd curve.

The final score didn’t really matter as this game pitted good friends against one another in a hard fought, fun, and sportsmanlike manner…and that is what baseball is all about. The fact that two mosquito teams from Penticton both went 4-0 and met in the final says a lot about this talented age group in SOMBA. The talent of this group is very deep in pitching and hitting and are very exciting to watch!

The Salmon Arm Baseball Organization puts on a great tournament at a great facility. If you’re not familiar with Elks park in Salmon Arm it consists of two back to back diamonds set in the middle of an RV park. It is perfect for a baseball tournament, and the organization, umpiring, weather, baseball, and camaraderie couldn’t have been better.
