The Penticton Tigers 15U AA squad rolled into the 2018 Tsawwassen Baseball 15U AA Grand Slam Victoria Day Weekend Tournament pitting themselves against 11 other teams vying for the Cup.

They opened with an 11-1 victory over the Cloverdale Spurs. In their second game the boys just couldn’t seem to solve the puzzling pitch selection of the starter from Triangle Baseball and fell 9-1 in a deflating loss. Former Tigers coach Junior Deleon was on hand to watch the game and took some time to speak with the boys about the loss offering them insight and suggestions on how to recover best. Junior’s influence on this group of boys goes as far back as T-ball for some and it seemed to be the magic that helped the boys rebound hard from there.

The boys went on to win their next game 11-1 against the Ladner Red Sox seeding them in fifth in round robin qualifying. In their quarter final match against the Vancouver Expos the squad kept the pedal on the floor pushing through with a 14-5 final. In the semi final the Tigers met the number one seed, undefeated Gordon Head team who had only allowed two runs against up until that point. The Tigers came out on top with a convincing 17-10 final score.

The final saw the Tigers step up to the plate against the only other undefeated team of the tournament, The Vancouver Mounties. The Tigers jumped out to an early 9-2 lead only to see the Mounties come surging back to a 9-8 score in the bottom of the 6th inning. The Tigers clawed their way up to a 14-8 lead and stood strong against the relentless efforts of the Mounties to finish with a 14-12 victory and held up the Champions Cup!
