Mosquito AA Tigers Have great Season
What a season for the U11 AA Penticton Tigers! After finding out they were the only team in the Interior Division and earning an automatic berth into the Provincial Championships in Comox, this team came together like no other.
Firstly, their exhibition schedule consisted of games against AAA Tier 2 talent. This squad of charismatic kids managed to put up wins against AAA teams from Kamloops, and Salmon Arm twice. To say they played their hearts out in those games would be an understatement.
The real team building came off the field for these players though. Parents and players alike bonded together to raise $5,000 in a short period of time to fund their trip to Comox. Whether it was selling hot dogs at Save on Foods in Cherry Lane Mall, Kettle Corn at Wal-Mart Penticton, washing cars at Parker’s Chrysler Dodge Jeep, or even doing a 50/50 draw at a Kelowna Falcons Game, you couldn’t stop the team from reaching their eventual goal of heading to the Island to play when it counted.
At the Provincial Championships, the players were blessed with the opportunity to play in a championship tournament held at a level they had not seen before. The field conditions were pristine, the weather was perfectly cool and warm for baseball, and the production value was second to none. The U11 AA Penticton Tigers would be remiss if they didn’t thank the entire Comox Valley Baseball Association for hosting us at an event we will all remember forever.
As the Head Coach of the team, I personally would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the local sponsors and community support in helping make this goal a reality for our team. To the players, for committing their time to the team. To the parents for being there to help us through everything, organizing events, and supporting us all the way. And to the other coaches; your time is invaluable, your effort is unspeakable, and your pride is admirable.
For everyone and anyone considering registering their children in team sport let me tell you this: The experience our team had from the outset helped us all become better athletes and better baseball players. But beyond that, this experience we all created from a little baseball team at McLaren Park, has resulted in life long memories, new friendships between parents and players alike, and the most rewarding piece of knowledge of all, that hard work does pay off.
To everyone involved with us this season, I am eternally grateful for your time.
