The PeeWee AAA Tigers are off to a hot start this summer.  After going 3-0 in their first 3 summer AAA games against Ladner, Ridge Meadows, and Surrey/Newton, the Tigers backed that up with a convincing 6-0 record to win the 2019 Kyle Losse Memorial Tournament in Tsawwassen this past weekend. 

The tournament began with a tight 4-1 win over the Campbell River Tyees where strong pitching by Ethan Woodbeck & Zach Heck shut down a powerful Tyees offence. 

The Tigers faced the Tsawwassen A’s in their next game & Kaden Collins struck out 6 over 2 1/3 innings and allowed only one earned run.  The offence was led by Zach Heck, Ethan Woodbeck, and Joey Conquergood all with 2 hits a piece.  Final score 16-2. 

Next up in pool play was North Langley.  Cole Wadsworth started on the mound and gave up 4 runs over 3 innings, but he made up for it with the bat where he drove in 3 runs with a hard hit single and 2 stolen bases!  Linden Moore came in & slammed the door with 2 innings of one run pitching! Final score 15-5. 

The Tigers played a very tough Victoria team next.  Luke Sandham was stellar on the mound.  He pitched 4 perfect innings 34 strikes, 8 balls and 7 strikeouts!  It was an amazing performance!  Tyler messing came in and slammed the door by pitching 2 no hit innings to preserve the no-hitter.  Wyatt Moore went 3-3 at the plate, but the offensive highlight had to be the 350’+ HR by Ethan Woodbeck...we’re still waiting for the ball to land!  Final score 16-0. 

The 4-0 record in pool play put the Tigers 1st in their pool & set up a game against the Tsawwassen A’s top PeeWee team.  This game was very hard fought, and very well played by both teams.  After allowing 4 runs in the first the A’s starting pitcher buckled down and shut out the Tigers for the rest of the game.  Thankfully Carson Burnett was even more stingy on the mound allowing only 2 runs over 5 innings striking out 13 in a dominating performance.  Burnett also chipped in with the bat by going 2/3 with a ringing double off the fence.  The 4-2 win put the Tigers into the final against Ladner who were also 4-0 in their pool & won their semi-final 12-2. 

The final game was a pitchers dual for 4 innings between Ethan Woodbeck and Aksel Vantol.  In the 5th inning the Tigers batted around the order with one out and exploded for 10 runs capped off by an Ethan Woodbeck grand slam.  Zach Heck came in and closed out the game for 16-1.  Tournament MVP went to Ethan Woodbeck who hit 5 HR’s over the weekend and pitched 9 2/3 innings of shutout ball with 23 strikeouts.  What a stud.
