Letter from the President - Mar 2021

By Kevin Castelone, 03/19/21, 2:15PM PDT

Hello Everybody,

Hope you are all enjoying first couple days of spring break! Lot’s of news to share this month so I’ll get down to it.

First, a huge thank you to our coaches, players, parents and directors for an outstanding winter training season! Considering the circumstances of the world in the last 365 days, we couldn’t have pulled that off without everybody adjusting to the PHO and Viasport guidelines. Sessions are finished and it’s almost time to get outside and showcase the benefits of offseason training!

With the season fast approaching there is a great opportunity for our coaches to virtually attend the 2021 BCMB Coaches Conference March 26th-28th at no cost. SOMBA will be covering the cost of the registration fee and by attending this year participants are eligible for a discount on NCCP courses offered in April. Please see both flyers attached below for details and contact your division director to reserve your spot.

Tryouts for the Bantam AAA single season team will take place Thursday March 25th 430-630pm, Friday March 26th 430pm-630pm and Saturday March 27th 11am-1pm at McNichol Field (depending on field availability) Any changes for venue, dates or times will be communicated directly to the division.

Tryouts for the Peewee AA spring team will be Thursday March 25th and Friday March 26th from 4pm-6pm at Kiwanis Field on Edmonton Ave.(depending on field availability) Any changes, once again, will be communicated directly to the division.

We hope to hear this week if there will be loosening of restrictions in youth sports to allow the next stage of “back to play” to go forward. As soon as there is a change we will inform all divisions of that change and what it means for SOMBA.

Registration closed on March 15th for tee ball 7U, tadpole 9U and mosquito 11U. These divisions will go to a wait list with an email request to the division director via the SOMBA website. Peewee 13U, Bantam 15U and Midget 18U will remain open for the next few days.

Coaches are still needed especially in the mosquito and peewee divisions. Please visit website to apply.

We are looking for new umpires for all levels of play.  Youth can start their umpiring career once they turn 12 years old.  We are always looking for adult umpires for our higher divisions and will train new umpires of any age.  For more information about SOMBA’s Umpires please visit the Umpire’s page on SOMBA’s website  Umpires SOMBA

As a result of COIVD Level 1 and 2 Umpire clinics are on-line.  Clinic Registration Instructions can be found at BCBUA 2021 Spring Clinic Registration Clinic are currently open for registration and are available now as either a one day sessions on a Saturday or Sunday or two evening session on consecutive week nights.

If you have any questions about the program, please contact Lorne Raymond at or 250-488-5125.

New SOMBA merchandise site is about to launch and it’s awesome! Division directors will be contacting player families to inform them of evaluation dates and times, game and practice schedules, Covid 19 protocols and procedures, etc.
