Good Day SOMBA pride members,
My name is Tyler (Ty) Andrew and I have been elected as President of SOMBA. Many of you may know me from coaching with the College Prep team over the last two seasons. In this past season I have also taken on the role of being the director of fields on the SOMBA board. Let me give you a little bit of a back story to my past. I am a born and raised Pentictonite and the start of my love and passion for baseball started back in 1994. Back then I can remember when I first stepped onto the t-ball field for my first practice. I have had the pleasure of playing on all the same fields as all of you players in my younger years and some fields that have long since passed. All throughout my elementary school years at recess and lunch, I would be the little kid on the sidelines watching the older kids play schoolyard baseball. While waiting for my opportunity to join them, I would watch and learn the beauty of the game played between friends. I finally had my opportunity to join the Tigers in its second year of operating in 2005 as a first year Bantam. That is where my love grew even more for the sport and for the position I called my own; catcher. I graduated out of the program in 2009 and took on the next chapter in life in full stride. The following year I started coaching with the Tigers as the head coach for the Bantam A and assistant coach for the midget AAA programs. After that season I took a long hiatus from coaching to continue and progress my career. I always missed being involved in the sport I loved, and thanks to some very close friends, they got me back in touch with the game. I look forward to the next two years of working with the new and returning board members to keep this organization progressing forward and making it a wonderful experience for the players and their families.
I will be sending another newsletter out at the beginning of December with updates for the winter training season as well as any updates for the upcoming year.
Thank you all for your support.
