The Penticton Tigers 13U PeeWee team from SOMBA (South Okanagan Minor Baseball Associoation) walked away with some championship rings from a tournament held in Kamloops a couple weeks ago. The team participated in 2 tournaments at McArthur park - put on by Marty Lehn from Big League Experience. Tigers captured gold in the first tournament and silver in the second tournament on Thanksgiving weekend.
13U won their 1st couple games in the tournament and then had their challenges on the next day with a couple strong battles ending in losses. They qualified for the finals and finished off with a win over Ashai 13U (from Vancouver) 7-1. The Tigers racked up 11 hits on the day with a few kids collecting multiple hits. The Tigers team stole 12 bases during the game and didn’t commit a single error.
The PeeWee Tiger team consists of players aged 11 & 12, of which many have been on the field together since they were 5 years old. Watching them grow and develop their skills together on the field in Penticton has been a great pleasure. The Coaches leading this team have been a part of the boys baseball lives for many years now - thank you to Cole Marven (head coach), Dale Mullins, Mike Funk & Trevor Aubie for volunteering countless hours & incredible leadership to these young athletes. This dedication to the sport and development of players is imperative to the success of the team & organization.
The Fall season has now come to an end and these players will take a couple months break to enjoy other sports. The winter ball program for PeeWee and all other divisions will run January - March, 2023 with registration opening December 13th 2022. Spring season begins in April and we anticipate a good number of players to be coming out to the fields to enjoy some sunshine & great baseball.
